Globalisation is sacked and populism is trapped !

Democracy believes in populism and populism is the reason of failure of the global economy; is it true?

What actually is populism, which is collapsing a ‘power’ of globalisation? Populism is, perhaps, a way of becoming popular for ‘vote’ and ‘note’ so that that power is easily captured. Populism is a path of politicians and celebrities who want to be ‘popular’ even being ‘naked’; probably naked is not physically but thoughtfully. Once ‘popular’ one reach to the power then it is hard to move forward and backward either. Trump won the election but got defeated in ‘Obama care’ and ‘immigration banned’. This is how populism is being trapped but it destruct the shaped order without creating a new one; though globalisation has been discontented. Globalisation is being defeated with inequality, hunger and poverty.

Populism is a political doctrine that proposes that the common people are exploited by a privileged elite, and which seeks to resolve this. The underlying ideology of populists can be left, right, or centre. Its goal is uniting the uncorrupted and the unsophisticated “little man” against the corrupt dominant elites (usually established politicians) and their camp of followers (usually the rich and the intellectuals). It is guided by the belief that political and social goals are best achieved by the direct actions of the masses.

Brexit and Trumpism are populism against immigration. And now this anti-immigration populism is killing global economic order especially western type of development. Larry Elliot, in his economic viewpoint, writes “Political revolts are inevitable in a world where employees are wage slaves and bosses super rich” in his recent article “Populism is the result of global economic failure” for the Guardian. In his words –

The rise of populism has rattled the global political establishment. Brexit came as a shock, as did the victory of Donald Trump. Much head-scratching has resulted as leaders seek to work out why large chunks of their electorates are so cross.

The answer seems pretty simple. Populism is the result of economic failure. The 10 years since the financial crisis have shown that the system of economic governance which has held sway for the past four decades is broken. Some call this approach neoliberalism. Perhaps a better description would be un-populism.

Un-populism meant tilting the balance of power in the workplace in favour of management and treating people like wage slaves. Un-populism was rigged to ensure that the fruits of growth went to the few not to the many. Un-populism decreed that those responsible for the global financial crisis got away with it while those who were innocent bore the brunt of austerity. Read more

  1. Great analysis. I think a lot of people are confused about what populism really is. I have friends telling me that populism is bad – presumably referring to Trump’s fake populism, ie using popular misery to promote a conservative agenda.
